President Trump fired the two Democratic members of the Federal Commerce on Tuesday, setting up a challenge to a precedent of the Supreme Court in 1935 banning the shot of FTC commissioners for other reasons than “good cause.”
The White House Finished Commissioners Rebecca Kelly Slaughter and Alvaro Bedoya Earlier on Tuesday, The New York Times reported. In a statement, slaughter called the shots “illegal.”
“Today the president illegally fired me from my position as a federal business commissioner, violating the flat language of a statute and a clear precedent of the Supreme Court,” Slaughter said. “Why?
The FTC, which typically has five members, was established in 1914 and is accused of enforcing consumer protection and anti -trim laws. The Trump administration aggressively challenged the authority of independent regulatory agencies, including the FTC.
