Trump, Putin meeting to be held in Alaska

president Donald Trump NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte said on Sunday that he would use the upcoming summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin to test the severity of Putin’s ending war with Ukraine.
Rut told ABC’s “this week” that the meeting came as Trump continued to put pressure on Putin, noting the recent high school Sanctions on countries such as Indiapurchased Russian oil and shipped deadly weapons to Ukraine.
“Next Friday will be important because it will be a test of Putin, how serious he is in achieving this terrible war,” Rutt said.
Trump announced his first face-to-face meeting with Putin since Moscow launched its deadly invasion of Ukraine in Saturday’s Truth Social Post in 2022. Leaders are expected to meet in Alaska on Friday, August 15.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr ZelenskyyHowever, as of Sunday, it is not expected to attend the summit with Trump and Putin. Despite Zelenskyy’s absence, Rutte said: “We need Ukraine.”
“It will be about territory,” Rut said of the upcoming meeting. “Of course, it will be about security assurance, but it is absolutely necessary to recognize that Ukraine decides its future, Ukraine must be a sovereign state that determines its geopolitical future, of course, Ukraine has no restrictions on its own military forces, and NATO has no restrictions on us in countries such as Latvia and Finland. Our limitations are limited to our eastern countries.

The U.S. ambassador to Nato Matthew Whitaker told CNN on Sunday that it was not yet decided whether to invite Zelenskyy to the meeting.

“If (Trump) thinks it’s the best scene to invite Zelenskyy to invite Zelenskyy, then he’ll do that,” Whitaker said, adding: “There’s time to make a decision.”
When asked if Putin Whitaker said that in any competition for national interests, it will be an action that decides whether to achieve and maintain peace, not words.

“Speech is cheap, but in this case, both Russians and Ukrainians, both sides must take action to achieve peace and continue to respect that peace,” he said.
