In response, Mamdani issued a statement claiming Trump’s remarks constituted an attack on democracy.
“The U.S. president just threatened me to be arrested, deprived of my citizenship, deported from the detention camp,” Mandani said. “Not because I violated any law, but because I would refuse to let ice terrorist attack our city.”
“His speech represents not only an attack on our democracy, but also an attempt to send a message to every New Yorker who refuses to hide in the shadows: If you speak, they will serve you.”
Trump also slammed Mamdani after the 33-year-old refused to condemn the term “globalization uprising.”
With the anger of the conflict in the Middle East

Trump told reporters on July 1: “Frankly, I heard that he was a crazy job. I think people in New York are crazy because they took the route. I think they are crazy. We will have a communist for the first time, and it’s a pure, real communist. He really wants to run a grocery store. Grocery store. Department stores. People there. What I want to be? What I want to be.”
In an interview with NBC News in June, Mandani said he did not want to condemn the term “globalization uprising”, a phrase used to support Palestinian resistance to Israel because he did not want “police language.”
Mamdami has been criticized by Democrats for refusing to take a stance on the statement, including Hakeem Jeffries, a New York House minority leader. Jeffries told ABC News on Sunday on June 2018 that the term was not “acceptable wording.”
