this Transportation safety management According to people familiar with the matter, it has ended about 20 years of rule that has caused many travelers to take off their shoes at U.S. airport checkpoints.
People said TSA briefed industry members on Tuesday’s changes.
Most passengers are asked to take off their shoes at US airport security checkpoints Since 2006. The TSA at the time said that since “intelligence points out the ongoing threat”, the requirement for shoe removal or explosive screening was to be taken off.
This was when Richard Reid, known as the “shoe bomber”, tried in a shoe on a Paris-to-Miami flight in December 2001 and failed to ignite explosive materials in the shoes.
Travelers participating in the TSA Precheck program can already place their shoes on them when they pass the airport checkpoint and keep their laptops and similar electronic devices in their schoolbags.
An air traveler placed his shoes in a trash bin on February 20, 2014 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in Los Angeles, California and then passed the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) security check.

The agency declined to comment on the change, saying IT and Homeland Security “has been exploring new and innovative ways to enhance the passenger experience and our strong safety posture. Any potential updates to our security processes will be released through official channels.”
