Former WBO junior middleweight champion Tim Tszyu can face Joey Spencer in Australia in April. It will be a confidence booster for 29-year-old TSZYU (24-2, 17 KOs), who has lost his last two fights, 0-2 In 2024.
Spencer will be Tszyu’s comeback, ready to clash with Keith Thurman. That’s if Thurman gets the win against Brock Jarvis in Sydney on March 12. Tszyu was supposed to fight former WBC and WBA middleweight champion Thurman on March 30, but he withdrew from the fight due to a bicep injury.

Before last year’s disaster, Tszyu would have been viewed as the overwhelming favorite against Spencer (19-1, 11 KOs), but no longer. This has to be viewed as a 50-50 fight as Tszyu showed he was unable to make simple adjustments during the fight.

This is a must win for Tszyu because if he can’t beat 24 year old Joey Spencer, he needs to seriously consider retirement as this is not a top 154 pound fight. He was destroyed by Jesus Ramos on March 25, 2023 with seven shots.
Since then, Spencer has defeated three unnamed fighters to establish himself. He still hasn’t proven that he’s operating at a world-class ability, but it looks like he’s good enough to be drafted into Tszyu’s backup fight in April.
Mutazaryev Disaster
IBF junior champion Bakhram Murtazaliev suffered an embarrassing four-punch loss in three rounds at Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida last October 19.
Murtazaliev revealed after the fight that he was fighting with an injured right arm and was forced to use his left hand. That proved to be enough, as he repeatedly dropped Tszyu with that punch until the referee finally waved away in the third round.
Bahram’s main weapon is his powerful right hand. You can only imagine what this fight would be like if he worked for him. tszyu probably didn’t make it out of the first round.
TSZYU lost to 6’5″ Sebastian Fundora via a 12-round split decision on March 30 last year. During this fight, there was talk of TSZYU potentially fighting Terence Crawford, This was supposed to be a big money game, but Fundora ruined everything.
