Two suspects involved in the shooting Officials announced Wednesday that an off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) official in New York City last month had been formally prosecuted.
In a press conference, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and New York City Mayor Eric Adams outlined new state-level charges filed against Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez and Christian Aybar-Berroa.
New charges have been announced
Mora, believed to be a gunman, is now charged with one count of attempted murder in her first and second degrees. Both face additional charges, including assault, attempted robbery, robbery and crime possession of weapons. They are expected to be arraigned later this month.

“Even when off work, the officer showed real heroism and quick action,” Prague said. “We will not tolerate violence against law enforcement or innocent New Yorkers.”
Prague described the shooting as part of a “violent robbery” planned by text messages in advance, noting that the suspect allegedly stole the woman’s phone earlier that night.
“These people pose a serious threat and don’t care about the safety of others in our city,” Mayor Adams said. “Their capture is a direct result of a collaboration between federal authorities, the New York Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office.”
Shooting events

The officer was shot and shot in the forearm, but fired again, hitting one of the suspects. Despite the serious injuries, the officer survived and is expected to recover completely.
Federal allegations and immigration status
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) previously confirmed that both suspects were illegal immigrants and had criminal records. They are also related to ongoing investigations, according to the New York Police Department.
Ricky Patel, special agent for the New York Homeland Security Investigation (HSI), said the attack posed a threat to the broader law enforcement community.
“When these people aim at our own goals, they are all targeting us all,” Patel said. “We are committed to pursuing justice with our law enforcement partners.”

“Miguel Mora and Cristhian Aybar lost their fate and lost their way when they set out to robbery last month,” Patel added. “These suspects did not express disregard for human life or the rule of law. Their choices changed not only their lives, but also the lives of a federal officer who just enjoyed a summer night.”
A wider survey
Several sources within the U.S. immigration and customs enforcement told Fox News that the man involved in the shooting and robbery attempt was believed to be the same person captured in a video of an armed robbery at a business in Leminster, Massachusetts in February.
In that incident, a store owner reportedly tied with tape and tied with a muzzle – two guns were stolen, sources said.
Political Response
After the incident, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and former Border Patrol officer Tom Homan visited the hospital’s injured person. Both stress the need for stricter immigration enforcement and Criticized asylum policy.
“Sanitation cities are sanctuary places for criminals. President Trump will not tolerate it,” Homan said.
President Donald Trump also spoke about the incident on social media, writing: “An incredible CBP official was shot and killed by an illegal alien monster in the country.”
“Despite the injury, CBP officials bravely fought his attackers, which demonstrated great skill and courage,” Trump wrote.

When asked about Norm’s remarks before, Adams was far from the federal immigration policy: “I have nothing to do with the rules set. I just follow the rules.”
Cooperation praises
Adams pointed to the rapid coordination among law enforcement agencies.
“Thanks to the brave actions of the wounded officers and our partners at various agencies, there are now two violent criminals on the streets,” he said.
