Two women shot dead in Kentucky church


Officials said the gunman who had just shot a nearby police officer killed two people in a Kentucky church.

Two women, 72 and 32, were killed in Sunday’s attack at Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington, police said, and two male parish residents were injured.

Investigators believe the suspect shot by police has connections with the church’s individuals.

State police said the injured soldier was undergoing medical treatment. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear expressed condolences on social media and said: “This kind of violence has no place in our Commonwealth or country.”

The initial shooting occurred at 11:36 local time (15:36 GMT) at the terminal near Bluegrass Airport, which was then an regional hub in Fayette County when a state policeman was shot dead by the suspect.

Lexington police said the soldier was “in a stable condition to receive medical treatment.”
