A New Zealand woman was arrested after finding a two-year-old girl in her luggage while traveling by bus.
Police said police were called to the bus stop in Kaiwaka, a small town in the north of the country, after a passenger asked to enter the suitcase.
“When the driver noticed the bag was moving, they found the two-year-old girl when the driver opened the suitcase.”
The 27-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with abuse/neglect of the child.
“The little girl was reportedly hot, but otherwise it seemed that she was not hurt.” Police said.
They added that she has been taken to the hospital and is undergoing medical evaluation.
The relationship between women and children has not been disclosed.
The woman will appear in court on Monday.
“We want to acknowledge and praise the bus drivers who noticed something was incorrect and acted immediately to prevent what could be worse,” police said.
