Ukrainian officials said at least six people were killed and more than 50 others were injured after Russian drones and missiles attacked Kiev.
One of the dead included a six-year-old boy, and three other deaths were confirmed on the scene in the apartment block after the strike.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of the military administration of Kiev, said the death toll could rise, with damage caused by more than 20 locations in the Ukrainian capital.
Although Russian leader Vladimir Putin disagreed with the ceasefire on August 8, the Russian attacks continued despite U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose tougher sanctions on Moscow.
“One of the strikes attacked a residential high-rise building and the entire entrance was destroyed. Rescuers are cleaning up the rubble,” said Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klymenko.
According to Clementko, the Svia Shensky and Solomasky areas in Kiev were the worst hit in the attack, with one person killed and another 20 injured.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said in a telegram that the children’s ward in the hospital was blown up by a shock wave.
One of Kyiv’s higher education institutions, a school and kindergarten, was also damaged in the attack.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said in an article on X that it was a “terrible morning” in Kiev and that “there are still people under the rubble.”
Sybiha added that Trump had “very generous and patient” to Putin, but it’s time to put “maximum pressure” on Moscow through sanctions.
