The USDA released its National Farm Safety Action Plan Tuesday morning.
The program is specifically designed to address threats from foreign governments, such as China, and how these threats affect American farmers. It proposed legislative and administrative reforms, such as prohibiting Chinese nationals from obtaining farmland in the United States and assessing who owns land near military bases.
Brooke Rollins, USDA Secretary, said: “The farm produce is not only a commodity, but a way of life based on the United States itself. That’s why it is threatened by criminals, political opponents, and hostile regimes that understand our way of life as a far-reaching and existential threat to themselves.”

“For them, agricultural land and our farms, because they are former inheritances, are weapons against us,” she continued. “We see it again and again, from the acquisition of American farmland by Chinese communism to the criminal exploitation of our agricultural system, to theft of operating information needed for working land and beyond. All of this takes profound benefits and turns it to evil purposes.”
Rollins and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Attorney General Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
“As the head of the Ministry of Defense, I want to know who owns land around our bases and strategic foundations and understand why foreign entities, foreign companies, foreigners may buy land around these bases,” Hegsth said.
