“A lot of people change their names, but the order I gave them has nothing to do with gender. I did sign in the California form to clarify what you want to show up on your driver’s license, but I didn’t carry it with me. I just brought mine with me California ID with female gender markings on it,” Fox said.
Passport officials’ situation goes downhill from there. “I started asking for clarity and asked if I would be allowed to leave the country and they said they had no answers,” Fox said. “The day before, I had been chatting with security guards at the Los Angeles passport agency – as a general atmosphere, I tried to be here socialize in situations and have a good feeling about what is going on-he told me he would contact his sergeant and he would talk to the supervisor to see if they would talk to me.”
In time, the supervisor confirmed that she would not be given a new passport, rather than the identification documents she submitted, including her birth certificate. When Fox asked when to return to these things, and how she would travel or leave the country if necessary, the answer she received was: “We don’t have any answers, we have to reply to you.
