AG: Do you have words, words, theory or other ways-the text you return in doubt or transitional times, is this something anchoring your creative and political vision?
JTD: This is an interesting question. I don’t have the singular text that I return, but I often turn to writing. As I mentioned, my recent favorites are Yung Pueblo’s books, and I’ve also been reading books about the creative process, including Rick Rubin’s “Creative Behavior: A Way of Being in Available” and Julia Cameron’s “Writing Right.”
Music is also a big influence – my favorite artists are Lori McKenna and Brandi Carlile, who are no surprise that they are superb, emotional storytellers.

AG: What would it be if you wanted people to carry it with you after seeing this show (a way to look at someone else or themselves)?
JTD: I want people to see and love exactly who they are, and my work inspired them to live a full and real life. I also hope that my work encourages presence, gratitude and function to remind you not to take anything for granted – life, time, relationships, love. We never know what is going to happen.
