Weekend protests; delegates were injured in ongoing riots

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert G. Luna announced Friday that nearly a dozen deputies were injured during the ongoing riot.

The riot began on June 6 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is conducting raids in cities and surrounding counties.

Luna said 10 deputies were injured after protesters threw rocks at them, Molotov cocktails and “high-end fireworks.”

“We’ve been encountering some interesting weapons,” Luna said. “There’s a big difference between (there’s a) peaceful protester and the people who attack our people.”

The focus of the press conference is on the plan to resolve the plan National protests Saturday targeted the Trump administration.

“It’s a good reason, but we don’t want violent inciteers out there to destroy property or commit violent acts against our police, deputy sheriff and the Center for Health Protection (California Highway Patrol) officer, Luna said. “I just want to remind everyone of our delegates and continue to face the dangerous situation.”

Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said LAPD has been “fully prepared” for the upcoming planned demonstrations and “unprecedented” crowds.

“We are closely monitoring developments and strategically deploying our people and resources to protect public safety while safeguarding everyone’s right to peaceful protest,” McDonald said.

“If you intend to commit a crime, damage property or harm others, including our officers, you will be arrested,” he added. “We will not allow violence, intentional damage or threats to public safety to undermine the rights of those who are legally demonstrative. We require all those who plan to attend Saturday’s event to be respected with peace.”

Since the protests began, McDonald said hundreds of people have been arrested.

He added that the curfew will remain in effect throughout the weekend, “playing a key role in helping restore order, especially by curbing crime that takes place most of the evening.”

CHP soldiers will be actively patrolling the statewide to find areas of concern.
