What is different this time? | A good start


Today is the most hopeful and beautiful day of the year.

That’s good!

Whatever goals or resolutions you set for yourself, I’m happy for you!

We’re all trying to make ourselves better, and even though things haven’t worked out the way we wanted them to in the past, we hope this time it will be different.

Nick Cave’s video describes Good Wishes as “good skin with a broken heart,” and I think that’s about right. We all try to be different when change is difficult.

If you are trying to build a new habit or change a number on the scale this year, I salute you. Setting a goal that will change is greatly appreciated.

But in order to have the best chance to achieve our goals, we must combine the goals with other ideas and awareness.

Here are two questions to ask yourself as we begin 2025…

Question 1: What is different this time?

I’m proud of you for starting.

But what is different about this initiative?

If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.

The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.

If you take one goal or strategy you try (the end result will be the same: another lost year “why can’t I get my job?”

So, be intentional about what’s different this time!

Don’t just “go on the XYz diet” or “give up all sugar forever” or “train for a marathon” again, especially if you’ve tried those things before and can’t stick with them.

Something was different this time:

  • Make fewer changes.
  • Choose one goal and focus on it.
  • Choose a different exercise area.
  • Choose a different diet or nutritional change.
  • Take some regular time to work.
  • Get a friend to join you so you’re not doing it alone.
  • Set the new desired behavior useful or necessary.

Convince yourself that you have learned something from your previous efforts. Don’t let past failures get you down – they show you what doesn’t work for you.

Try something different this time!

Question 2: What are you afraid of?

You are full of time now, and that is good.

But three weeks from now, life will happen, and something will go wrong.

What were your thoughts when this happened in the past?

We ask each NF customer training Before they start, “What are you most worried about?”

This answer is something they are aware of as a result of their previous efforts:

Are you going to work and decide “to rest until things slow down?” Great! Now you know when that little voice in your head says so, you can prepare it, to cut something different, and decide that you are not and to listen to this voice in yourself.

Are you going to have one bad day and go completely off the boats? Great! Now you know that when you have a bad day, you can forgive yourself, not look back in anger or guilt, and get yourself back on track.

Are you going to quit even though you really, really want to push? Great! This happens to all of us when the team moves after a few weeks. Consider Dingara and pactasses To hedge against your injury or make a bet with a friend to keep you accountable.

NF Coach Matthew Myers recently on Brain podcast with Josh Nichols – And at the 24:30 mark in the Episode, Mat showed something to Josh that surprised him:

“You told me before you started, ‘I know I’m going to come out of the gates of trouble, but about three weeks in, I’m going to burn out.’

And I said, ‘Thank you for letting me know,’ And I have all the salary of these articles to check with you regularly Markus! “

Josh has the smarts to know where he’s going to play in the future, he and coach Matt have planned it, and he’s on the right track together.

Since then, they have been working together for two months (and counting), and Josh has lost a day to investigate the “all-or-nothing” nature of Josh’s culture to shoot!

This time may be different

We all rise to change, even if we are aware…

We often bite off more than we can chew:

Our goals and the hopes of many of them go beyond the fact that we are falling, difficult, complex, complicated people who can be alive.

That’s good!

If we are aware of these things, if we can try differently… then even this away The trick doesn’t work either, we can remove this trick from the list of possible winners, and try again.

This is life in the world: Try, fail, adjust, restart.
