Andy Cruz is expected to stop Hironori Mishiro in the fifth round of the Madison Square Garden in New York last Saturday night, so it won’t be a world title soon with IBF lightweight champion Raymond Muratalla after becoming his mandatory.
Muratalla (23-0, 17 KO) has only recently been promoted by the IBF, and the promoters of his top position will hope to focus on a more victorious battle. It would be a bad move to bring him in with Cruz (6-0, 3 Kos). Muratalla is a good fighter, but not at Andy Cruz’s level.

Muratalla’s strategic exercise
Interestingly, if IBF commands to fight, which strategy ranking will be used to assist Muratalla in manipulation around Cruz. If Muratalla beats Sam Noakes to take over the WBO lightweight title, they can unify Muratalla with Abdullah Mason. But Mason, 21, is young, and fighting his top ranking against Muratalla, 28, will be self-deceiving.
“I think promoting Muratalla’s top ranking is doing everything possible,” Mannicks said. “I don’t know why they were coming in with Andy Cruz. Maybe they’re going to have Muratalla fight Abdullah Mason. He’s going to fight Sam Noakes (because of the vacant WBO lightweight title). It’s command. I think the top ranking will do something.”
They will have the chance to match people like Muratalla with Isaac’s “Pitbull” Cruz or Frank Martin. These are real battles and Raymond will have a great chance of winning.
“I would love to see the battle between Cruz and Muratara,” Mannicks said. “He was undefeated and was a good fighter. He won the victory in the fight. So, I would love to see the battle, but I just couldn’t see the top ranking run. I don’t think it’s realistic.”
Andy Cruz is much better than Tevin Farmer, 36. Muratalla’s success with him doesn’t mean he can do the same with Cruz.
Cruz’s lightweight body rises
“Whenever Andy Cruz shoots, I think he’s going to win the championship. Once he gets the championship, you look around, ‘Well, can we get Andy Cruz vs. Shakur Stevenson?’ It’s a good fight and I can’t see him anywhere near him.
The top ranking will not want to join Cruz in Muratalla after watching what he did to Mishiro last Saturday night. They will want Muratalla to defend against less powerful people and try to hold on for long enough to fight the more famous warriors. Nor will Tank Davis and Shakur Stevenson. There is no money to fight with Muratalla.
