As Pompidou Centre Preparing to close five years of hibernation, the museum handed over the ins rope to Wolfgang Tillmans Exciting send. The German photographer opened the vault for a vast curatorial project in its first major Paris show in 23 years, unveiling the stage in the 6,000 square meters of the public information library.

Drawing clues from surrounding buildings, the artist turns the library into a stage of dialogue between his work and the concept of knowledge itself.
Constructed by works from countercultural high schools in the 1990s, Tillmans’ work has always challenged the limits of visual representation, capturing moments that reveal everyday beauty. “I’m interested in making images, making art – as a translation of the world I see. I often think artwork is as interesting as the ideas it provokes,” he noted.
