X (previously Twitter) by Elon Musk blocks links to Signal.Me, URL shorter used by the private message signal signal, which allows users to send a link that is used to contact them directly through the service. The blocks that affect direct messages, public posts and profile pages were first spotted by the blog Interruptor.
The change comes because Doge (the Department of Government Performance) is aimed at federal agencies, including NASA and the Department of Education, letting workers turn to Signal’s encrypted message platform to safely share information and blow the whistle on potentially harmful activity.
Nearly 10,000 federal workers were fired throughout the government while Musk’s Doge is working to prevent federal spending and close entire agencies, such as USAID.
Techcrunch tried to share a link with post and DM. When you try to share with a post, a message appears that says, “Something went wrong, but don’t worry – let’s give it another shot.”
Any message with a link to Signal.Me also fails to send, and a popup appears, which says, “This request looks like it could be automated. To protect our users from spam and other malicious performance, we cannot perform this action now . Please try again later.
