In Star Wars, Emperor Palpatine serves as the fearsome villain of a galaxy far, far away, with his terrifying influence spreading across three different thorns. Because of this and because of the persistent myth that George Lucas planned every character and story that was beaten forward, most fans pointed out that Palpatine would always be faced by our heroes. However, the official novel of the first Star Wars confirms that in the beginning, the emperor was little more than a puppet figure controlled by other people.
The original emperor
The Star Wars prequels do a great job of portraying Emperor Palpatine as a Master Manipye who wields both pillars in a successful bid for control of the old Republic. However, it was a long, long time before the prequel trilogy came out, Alan Dean Foster’s first novel Star Wars gives us a very different picture of this man. According to this book, Palpatine was actually “controlled by the aides and boot-leggers he appointed to high office.”
That book describes a very different Emperor Palpatine, one more in line with George Lucas’ original vision. In 1974 an early draft of Star Warsthe emperor was a young human named Cos Dashit. He’s actually the latest in a long line of emperors in this draft and doesn’t have force powers, which is pretty easy. Darth Vader To try to oppress him and otherwise interfere with his legal authority.
In time Star Wars Coming out in 1977, Vader was written off as a flunkie. Not only the Grand MOCK Tarkin successfully freed him, but other imperial officials are not afraid to make fun of the meetings of the Lord during the Work Meetings (May the death presidencies of the resource). However, Tarkin and the other officers seem to fit the emperor in this movie as they discuss palpatine quietly dissolving the Senate. Interesting, this short scene of A New Hope Paints a different picture than the novel’s concept of Palpatine as a weak skophant.
It wasn’t entirely clear when George Lucas decided to make Emperor Palpatine into a terrifying threat on his own terms, but the director has largely shown the big bad in The Empire strikes back And it was firmly established that Darth Vader—the most feared man in the galaxy—was afraid of his master. In time Return of the Jedi Afterward, Lucas decided to make Palpatine a powerful user of the Fall Force, and all from his ability to defeat Luke Skywalker In his capacity for terror all of the dying star sought his supreme authority. The figure is gone forever, replaced by a superior evil that our heroes must defeat.
The story of emperor palpatine who came from the low levels of his own empire to become a hugely influential SCI-FI franchise that has changed over time. Regardless of what he has said or mentioned in previous interviews, George Lucas has never been able to fully see the future of his franchise. However, he knew what Yoda Later will teach Lucas Skywalker: that the future always works, and even the smallest decisions can have huge ramifications for the beloved real world.
