No one works harder to brand their stuff quite like Sony. After Spider-Man’s supporting cast has repeatedly proven to be Live-action bustthe company is now turning to Adapt PlayStation Games to television and the big screen. From current hits like Horizon And Helldivers to the now-SHELED Gravity Rush And Days away, It seems that anything can be done to adapt.
Insomnia games, the studio behind Ratchet & Clank and the recent one Spider-Man Titles, hope to jump on that trend. In a recent Variety Interview, future partner Ryan Schneider-who led together with Chad Durzen and Jen Huang when Current general manager/founder Ted Price Leaves in March – said interest in bringing the studio’s games to TV and film. The developer had an “early start” with the Ratchet CG film from 2016, which was also accompanied by a PlayStation 4 remake of the original game, which integrated plot points and scenes from the film.
The Ratchet Film was such a commercial and critical disappointment at the time, it also joined plans for potential Sly Cooper Movieand helped freeze the entire franchise until the 2021s Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. However, Schneider believes that it is as good a time as any to give another adaptation of one of its properties, and the serial-gun series in particular. It basically have to be this one franchise, as Sony and Marvel will continue to do Spider-Man Media until the end of existence, and other sleepless franchises like Resistance Or Sunset overdrive have been shelved for some time, and the studio currently doesn’t seem interested in bringing them back. (They should!)
Right now Sony has its hands full adapting the franchises mentioned above, including last of us’ Second Season on HBO in April. Meanwhile, Insomniac is mainly working Marvel’s Wolverine, Which Dezern said he would “love to talk about,” but only when the time is right. “We have to be like Logan today, and stay very stoic until it’s time to show the claws down the road,” he worried. “As much as we have so much excitement, we have to hold it.”
